Costco’s Nut Policy is Brilliant

October 11, 20121 Comment

Michael Burger here. Just got back from a trip to Costco. Picked up a jar of Kirkland brand chocolate covered almonds. Why is this relevant? Jim Sinegal, the founder of Costco discovered by changing the shape of the round nut containers…to square nut containers, he could squeeze more jars on the pallet. Genius! By getting more containers on each pallet, Costco reduced his shipping costs (on nuts alone) by 400 truck loads per year! Taking the trucks off the road put more money on the table for Costco. So whats your square jar, chocolate covered almond issue that can save you or even make you more money? This is Michael Burger for the Relevant Report.
